Authentic: A Creative Writing Activity

Charge to Experience

(February 25, 2010)

Jacqui, a simple young lady who lives in Bulua with her whole family. Their place is near ABS-CBN station, along Macapagal road. She goes to school everyday and is currently studying in Mindanao University of Science and Technology or simply known as MUST. Jacqui takes up Technology Communication Management and she is already on her fourth year. Before she takes up this course, she first invades the world of engineering. She used to be a Computer Engineering student, but Jacqui realized that she couldn't pursue this course anymore.

As a shiftee, she also had a hard time coping with her new classmates. She met new faces, new building, new department and new excellent teachers under the College of Arts and Sciences. She made herself very comfortable and slowly adopted the new environment.

Week after, she met Abby, a third year student and got mature mind. Jacqui and Abby started hanging out with each other. They take snacks and lunch together. Jacqui loves calling Abby as “Ate', since she doesn't have an ate at home, simply because she is the eldest daughter. Abby is an irregular student. She got lots of sections, and one of these is 1k2 or 1b. Abby is called ate in the class and everybody knew her already, while Jacqui is in 1a. Then, there is this guy, a transferee from Xavier University who came to be Abby's classmate. He is Kent; not that handsome, but quite cool. Kent, keeps on asking about Jacqui. He thought that she is a transferee from other university, so she asked Abby about Jacqui and Abby explained it clearly.

“Oh! That is Jacquilyn. Everybody calls her Jacqui. She is a shiftee, actually. A computer engineering student before here in our university. Why did you ask about her?”, Abby said.

“Nothing. My eyes caught her. Send my regards to her, Abby.”, Kent replied.

Abby shared it to Jacqui that Kent caught her attention. Jacqui's classmates keeps on teasing her and pushing her to get to know the guy personally. But, Jacqui was like, “Sorry, I am not interested about him.” Still the guy keeps on sending regards to her through her classmates and Abby.

Then one day, during their celebration of MUST Days, Kent and Jacqui started hanging out with each other. To her, it is just a matter of getting to know the person and she believes that there is nothing wrong with it. So, they talk, hang out and they keep on communicating through sending an SMS or hear each other's voices over the phone. Their daily routine goes on and on until Kent fell in love with Jacqui. He tried courting her in a sincere way and He even waited for almost one month for the “YES”. Jacqui keeps on thinking about the question that Kent left, “Will you be my girlfriend?”, it bothered her because she know, deep inside her that she also love Kent and she knew that He is really serious. And it was her first time to experience that a guy courted her personally.

And the long wait was over and she already said yes. Who wouldn't be happy of the result; a girl's “YES” is really significant to every guy. He waited for almost one month. They've been together for one-year and 4months. They spent their time happily. Jacqui's parents knew about Kent, and vice-versa. It is an open relationship. They even celebrated their 1st anniversary at High Ridge; a surprise given by Kent to Jacqui. High Ridge is located on a hilltop in Aluba, it gives you a perfect view of Cagayan de Oro especially at night. It was Jacqui's first time to invade that place. There were so many hindrances during their anniversary. One, the rain pours heavily, that they can't even go out of their houses'. Two, her little brother is so sick, and she needs to take care of him because her parents is out of town. But, as what the cliché goes, "If there is a will, there is a way." so, they pursue in celebrating their anniversary. They went to Cathedral Church and prayed. She received memorable gifts from him; a bouquet of roses, a CD that contains a movie maker and a stuff toy (Pooh) that Jacqui craved for. It was such a perfect moment, although they weren't able to witness the panoramic view of CDO, because Jacqui seriously needs to be at home.

Love doesn't focus on happiness. It needs challenges that could help build a strong relationship. On February 25, 2011 a sudden break-up was made. That day was also their celebration of being together for one-year and 5months. Sad to say, they didn't make it. The guy fell out of love. It wasn't his intention to feel that way and to hurt the one He loves.

“I don't want you to cry. You promised not to cry when this moment would come. I know it is not easy, and I know you knew that I hate seeing a girl crying.” Kent explained it to Jacqui.

“I still have my class. Maybe we can talk about it later. (Teary-eyed)”, Jacqui said.

But, because Jacqui is so hesitant in breaking up with him and she can't even dare to say goodbye personally, so she just sent him an SMS explaining her part.

“I want you to be happy. And because you are asking for freedom, then I am giving it to you right at this very moment. I'll set you free. I may want it in a formal way, but I really can't make it...I am just too weak to face the reality.”

And now, she is making herself feel better and trying to learn from the past. It is just mind over matter. :)
